Academic Standards and Achievement

Saint Ambrose School is accredited by the Missouri Chapter of the National Federation of Nonpublic School State Accrediting Associations, the Archdiocese of Saint Louis and exceeds the requirements of The State of Missouri Department of Education. Missouri State Certified, experienced, dedicated religious sisters and lay teachers comprise the faculty. The faculty strongly believes that their personal commitment to their own educational and spiritual development enables them to address the specific needs of every child. All aspects of education are grounded in the Catholic Faith. The educators at Saint Ambrose follow the precept of "to teach as Jesus would."

While curriculum stresses the basics, it acknowledges the needs of a complex technological society. Core subjects of religion, math, language arts, science, and social studies are supplemented by physical education and the study of fine arts. The use of computers is an integral part of learning in the computer lab and within all classrooms.

Saint Ambrose initiated the first Saint Louis Archdiocesan Inclusion Learning Consultant Program for learning disabled, at risk, and other health impaired students. This program has become a model for inclusive education throughout the city of Saint Louis. The Saint Ambrose Inclusion Program offers support services to learning disabled, at risk and other health impaired students. The diagnosed students participate in grade appropriate classes with their peers. Modifications and adaptations are made on an individual basis based on the student’s strengths and weaknesses as diagnosed by outside professional testing. A learning consultant, who works in partnership with the classroom teachers, spearheads the program.

The fundamental tenet of the program is that each student is an important, accepted member of our school and community. Inclusive educators and all of Saint Ambrose’s staff work to create a sense of oneness; yet, they celebrate the diversity within our school.

A middle school concept has been initiated at Saint Ambrose. This Middle School concept is the "House System".  Students in grades six through eight are part of this House System. The middle school is designed to be "a school within a school." This approach allows the staff to meet the unique needs and characteristics of the young adolescent. The physical, spiritual, psychological, intellectual, social, moral and ethical needs are encompassed in the program. There are 6 houses in the Middle School. Each House is named after a saint, has adopted a motto, house colors, and symbols.  The Houses compete against each other in acquiring Service hour points.

To meet these unique needs several programs have been added to the middle school curriculum. They include student council, leadership retreats, modified block scheduling, and opportunities for cross-curricular learning/investigation.

In addition to the specific curricular requirements, Saint Ambrose offers each student opportunities to engage in extra curricular activities. These activities include: altar servers, safety patrol, scouting, student council, student liturgical music group, sports teams, and Speech Club.
