Our Seventh and Eighth Graders are being confirmed on Monday, April 7,
and our Second Graders will receive their First Communion on Saturday, April 12.
May they continue to receive these sacramental graces and other blessings.
Members of the Mount Carmel Society have been praying for those receiving the sacraments
and will be providing them with donuts one morning after the school Mass.

Congratulations to Mrs. Shanna Kar on the birth of her daughter on March 31.
Mrs. Mandy Longland will be substituting until Mrs. Kar returns in August.

Ice Skating Field Trip on Friday April 11th.  This field trip was originally scheduled for Catholic Schools Week, but because of a snow-day, it had to be rescheduled.  New permission forms have gone home.  Please return them as soon as possible.

School Improvement Plan
Participants in the School Improvement Process were commissioned during Mass on March 30. We are reviewing questionnaire results in the context of our School Improvement Plan, among other things. We have received survey returns from about 40% of our parents, but the committee set a minimum goal of 50% return. Every questionnaire received is read and placed in a binder. The Committee selected by the Archdiocese will have access to those surveys.

Thank you to those who have completed and returned the survey to school. The deadline for completing and submitting the questionnaire is Friday, April 11, 2008. The questionnaire can be found on the Fastdirect screen: Click, Print, Answer, and Return to the office on or before April 11.

School Playground Raffle
All proceeds go toward construction of a New Playground!
1st Prize - Cardinal Luxury Suite
2nd Prize - $1,000
Tickets: $25 each, or 5 for $100

Winner will be announced on May 20th at the School Picnic, but need not be present.

To reward early participation, we're holding two additional drawings for $100 in gas or food cards. The winner of the first drawing, held on March 17, is the Passafiume family. A second drawing on April 14 will include all tickets sold through April 11. We are at 40% of our ticket-sale goal and hope that each family can sell at least four tickets.

School Service
Money raised during dress-down days at St. Ambrose from September through March has been in support of St. Patrick Center's Key Player Initiative. We submiited a check in the amount of $1646.26 for inclusion in the "corporate gift," representing all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. A press conference will be held on April 22 at St. Patrick Center announcing the final total! Thanks to all of you, it will be BIG!!!

"May God richly bless you for your leadership in this effort, and the children for their generosity and care!"

Safe Environment Program Compliance
The archdiocese recently completed a review and determined that St. Ambrose is in compliance with the Safe Environment Program (SEP), as required by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. The efforts of Linda Gambaro were commended in achieving this goal. Please remember that all volunteers need to be in compliance to be considered active and work directly with the children. This requires attending the Protecting God's Children workshop and completing the associated paperwork.

Video Streaming Update
Have you viewed the Video Clips on the St. Ambrose web site yet? The new link to Catholic Schools Week includes many pictures of the kids! More videos are in production, so check back often. Click the St. Ambrose link here or atop the upper-left column on the Fast Direct home page. Or enter www.stambroseonthehill.com/school in your web browser.

Recycle!
Our school recycled 10 tons of paper in the last two months, thanks to all of you. We are very close to our goal of 35 tons and winning a prize in the Paper Recycling contest! Please remember to recycle your newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and school papers every day. After we win $1,000, we will contribute our prize to the playground fund. So please recycle and bring the paper to our school bins on Hereford, across from the Soccer Lot. With everybody’s help we can reach our goal. Thank you.

Safe Touch Curriculum
The Archdiocesan Child Safety Committee has developed a school based-curriculum for grades K-8 that contains practical, helpful information to help children protect themselves from dangers that exist today. The goal is to equip our students with the skills necessary for them to participate in their own personal physical safety. The objective of this curriculum, entitled "Safe Touch," is to teach our children self-protection skills. Children will learn body safety rules in an age-appropriate and non-threatening manner. This curriculum will be taught by Lisa Horner, learning consultant, who is a trained lead teacher. It will consist of one class period.

The "Safe Touch" curriculum approaches safety issues in a respectful manner, connecting our Catholic values with information to keep our children safe. Please do not hesitate to contact Sr. Carol or Mrs. Horner if you have any questions or concerns regarding this important piece of your child's education. Feel free to look over the curriculum plan presented to your child at any time during the school day. It will be available in the penthouse, or you can call Mrs. Horner to arrange a time. If for whatever reason you would prefer your child not to hear this presentation at school, you have the option of opting him or her from the program. Simply contact Sr. Carol or Mrs. Horner.

Children's Safety in Using the Internet
These tips were provided by US Attorney, Catharine Hanaway at a lecture she gave recently.
  1. No computers in bedrooms. Keep you computer in a family room or public area of your house so you can monitor the sites your child is going to or the pictures they are viewing.
  2. Take your web cam off or cover the lens with tape or a sticker. Hackers have figured out how to turn these on remotely.
  3. Teach your child not to talk to strangers whether it be on-line or in person. Most kids understand the dangers of talking to strangers in person, be sure they also know not to talk to strangers on-line.
  4. By screen shot software at a local office store that will show you page views updated every 15 seconds. This will allow you to know a predator is not contacting your child and will help you get their myspace or facebook log on info.
  5. Either don't let your child have a presence on myspace or facebook or require that you be one of their friends so you can view their page's activity.
  6. Go to the website http://inobtr.org/Intro.aspx to learn more on how to protect the children you care about.
Archdiocesan Tuition Grant Applications for 2008 - 2009 are available at the rectory OR go online at www.factstuitionaid.com.

On behalf of Troop #728, thanks so much for making our first Easter raffle a tremondous success. A special thanks to Sr. Carol for allowing us to use the cafateria and her office for storage, and the Junior scouts for helping in the afternoon. Notes to Parents

New Instructions Regarding Campbell's Labels
Please send in the entire label, as the instructions for submitting labels have changed. We will have homeroom parents help with the cutting that is required. Pass the word to grandparents and neighbors who may save them too. And, don't forget to keep clipping boxtops and labels and saving them for upcoming contests!

Save More Labels
Please save labels from Nestle Pure Life Purified Water. The school gains points for every label saved and we can earn equipment at the end of the year. Please turn these labels in separately from the Campbell labels.
