School Choice Meeting
Please inform your school communities of an important meeting of the Missouri Coalition for School Choice at 7:00 pm at St. Roch Church on October 2, 2007. This is an open meeting and it would be most appropriate for parents, teachers, parishioners, etc. to attend! This is not a city issue--this is our chance to advace the cause of choice for those who often do not have the means to choose Catholic schools!

10 Commandments for Parents
Sr. Carol Cimino will provide practical pointers for effective parenting and strong relationships both with your child and the school. Plan to attend at St. Joan of Arc Church on Monday, October 8, at 7 pm. Earlier that day, Sr. Carol will present the Region Workshop to our faculty and staff.

Enthronement of the Sacred Heart
On Friday, October the 12th, at the 8:00 Mass, the students will take part in the Enthronement Ceremony of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. One eigth grader who demonstrates the qualities and characteristics of a good Christian and models devotion to the Sacred Heart will have the privilege and honor of crowning the Sacred Heart. The students will recite the Act of Consecration to His most loving Heart. We are sending home family consecration packets just for your family. Also, each family will receive a beautiful print of the Sacred Heart. You are welcome to join us for the Enthronment Ceremony and the Mass.

Macy's Shop for Education Program
Sign up to support St. Ambrose and every time you use your Macy's card, the school earns money. Complete the flyer sent home this week and return to the office to start earning from 1 to 3 percent of your monthly charged purchases at Macy's.

Our Thanks To
The new chairs were purchased with funds from Target's Take Charge of Education program. Apply for a Target REDcard or Visa and 1% of your purchases are returned to your designated school.
New tables are on order, purchased with proceeds from the Quilt Social.

Notes to Parents
Right Start Program
Eighth grade students, as well as their parents and teachers, know they will be faced with many life impacting decisions during high school and beyond. Will they have the right information when it comes to choices about chastity and abortion? The Right S.T.A.R.T. (Students Tackling Abortion Realities Today) program delivers five fascinating lessons on fetal development, abortion, chastity, end-of-life issues, and the sanctity of each life created by God. Students and teachers receive brochures and handouts that reinforce and expand on each day's topic. An important part of this program is the parent meeting. Sharing this information with the parents is vital as they need to be able to talk with their children about these issues.

Catholic High School Information
Access the schedule for all High School Nights scheduled this Fall, as well as information on each school's program, fees, etc. on the archdiocesan web site. Go to archstl.org and look under Secondary Schools.

Counseling Services
We are blessed again this semester with graduate student counselors from SLU who will be doing their practicum here working with students on social, personal and motivational issues. Please contact Terry Kellar or Lisa Horner if you feel your child would benefit from this counseling service. We will send you a permission slip to sign and return to school. Counselors began the week of September 24th.

Link to Lunches
The PTO would like to make it easier for you to track the Taste of the Hill lunches you've purchased. We can link from Fast Direct to a spreadsheet listing which families have purchased which lunches, but want to ask for your feedback first. Would you find this information helpful? Do you have any concerns? Please let us know.

In the Office
Please stop by to purchase Entertainment Books for $25 each. If you're not sure you've completed all the back-to-school paperwork (
emergency forms, signed media notices, and handbook/internet usage forms), you can check while you're there. Don't forget to pick up some Together We're Better cards while you're there.

St. Ambrose Second Grade Ballerinas
The Moscow Ballet will celebrate its 15th anniversary presenting its Great Russian Nutcracker in over 70 cities this 2007 holiday season. With its all-Russian cast, renowned for exquisite dancing, choreography, and spectacular scenic design, this show is the must-see production of 2007. Of special interest are the two St. Ambrose second graders, Madelyn Wansong and Grace Jegle, who recently auditioned and were selected to dance with the Moscow Ballet in their St. Louis performances. Madelyn will be dancing in the French variation and Grace will be in the dance of the snowflakes. The performances will be at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center on the UMSL campus on December 26, 2007, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information on the Moscow Ballet or for tickets, log onto www.nutcracker.com.

MiscellaneousTop

Hot Lunch Program
Click the Cafeteria Menu link in the right column of the Fast Direct home page to see what's being served next week.
You may purchase a seven-lunch card for $23.00. Please make checks payable to Chris' Pancakes. If your child forgets to bring lunch, the alternative this year is a cheese sandwich. The price for a single day's lunch is $3.50.

Recycle Your Ink Jet Cartridges, Paper, and Aluminum Cans
This free program generates money for St. Ambrose and helps protect the environment. Simply drop the cartridges off in the cafeteria and the paper and cans in the bins on Hereford.

New Instructions Regarding Campbell's Labels
Please send in the entire label, as the instructions for submitting labels have changed. We will have homeroom parents help with the cutting that is required.
Pass the word to grandparents and neighbors who may save them too. And, don't forget to keep clipping boxtops and labels and saving them for upcoming contests!

Save More Labels
Please save labels from Nestle Pure Life Purified Water. The school gains points for every label saved and we can earn equipment at the end of the year. Please turn these labels in separately from the Campbell labels.
