The relationship between curriculum and technology was the focus of the October 8 Faculty In-Service Day. In addition to a faculty meeting, teachers received additional training for the interactive TeamBoards, BlueTooth laptops, and EasyTeach software, which are in every classroom. Mike Church, form MIS Technologies, commented in his presentation that St. Ambrose is "on the right track, if not above," most schools in which his company has installed TeamBoards.

Enthronement of the Sacred Heart
On Friday, October the 12th, at the 8:00 Mass, students take part in the Enthronement Ceremony of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. One eighth grader who demonstrates the qualities and characteristics of a good Christian and models devotion to the Sacred Heart has the privilege and honor of crowning the Sacred Heart. The student chosen to crown the Sacred Heart at the Enthronement Ceremony is Gwen Calcaterra! And the Crown Bearer will be Sam Herbig. The attendants are Erin Luna, Gina Migneco, and Rachel Pearson. We're looking forward to a special day!

Prayer Campaign for Priests and Consecrated Religious
If you can commit to praying 10 Hail Marys a day from Monday, October 15, through the end of the month, please sign the prayer pledge in the School Office or at the TWB tables after Mass. These prayer pledges will be bound in book form and presented at the Cathedral Basilica
during the 5:00 pm Mass on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. All are welcome to attend this Mass.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair
St. Ambrose School received a certificate for $1434.45 from sales of Joe Garagiola's book and at this summer's Book Fair at Barnes and Noble in Fenton. Faculty representatives visited the store on October 10 to purchase books requested by the teachers for their classrooms. Thanks to all who supported the Book Fair and helped to bring more books into the school.

Catholic High School Information
The Middle School teachers accept invitations from Catholic high schools to learn about their programs and entry qualifications. These visits include presentations by department heads. Parents may access information on each high school's
program, fees, etc. under the "Secondary Schools" link at archstl.org. High School Open House is Sunday, November 4. A meeting for 8th Grade parents and students is planned for Wednesday, October 24 at St. Ambrose.

Counseling Services
We are blessed again this semester with graduate student counselors from SLU who will be doing their practicum here working with students on social, personal, and motivational issues. Please contact Terry Kellar or Lisa Horner if you feel your child would benefit from this counseling service. We will send you a permission slip to sign and return to school. Counselors began the week of September 24th.

From Bridget Yates:
What a great day we had for LaFesta! My family and I really enjoyed ourselves and loved seeing how many people came out to enjoy the day and support St. Ambrose. We have something so special here.

I worked in the "7-11" booth. During the course of the day, I needed some extra help and Linda Gambaro, as always, came to the rescue. She arranged for Claire Brusati to help and she did a very nice job. Later in the day, I needed help again and Linda enlisted Rachel Pearson and Samanthat LaFerla. They were so helpful and energetic and fun to be with! They are lovely, spirited young ladies and I was very happy to get to know them better. I thought you would appreciate knowing how helpful each of them were, when they very well could have been playing in the schoolyard with their friends.
Box Top Contest
Please send boxtops, through October 29, in an envelope marked with your child's name and homeroom or, for the upper grades, house. This will help with the counting. Winners will be announced on the 19th and the 29th.

Fire Prevention Week
Captains Ray Hummel and Jim Bricker visited St. Ambrose with a presentation on fire safety. Students practiced a 90-second fire drill. Ask you children to share what they learned about fire prevention at home.

Field Trip to Sheldon Concert Hall
Students from grades 2, 4, and 7 attended a music program on Friday, October 12, at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Tickets and the bus were funded by a grant.

From Mrs. Patke
The Kindergartener's are really doing well identifying patterns as part of their math curriculum and this week we have talked about Mary, the mother of Jesus and our mother too. They learned about the Rosary and how to pray it. We ended the week reading a story about Our Lady of Fatima as well as watching a movie about how Mary appeared to 3 children in Fatima, Portugal, not too long ago and asked them to pray the rosary. Finally, we practiced the Hail Mary and said a decade of the rosary for all the people of St. Ambrose and for peace in our world, starting at home.

St. Ambrose Second Grade Ballerinas
The Moscow Ballet will celebrate its 15th anniversary presenting its Great Russian Nutcracker in over 70 cities this 2007 holiday season. With its all-Russian cast, renowned for exquisite dancing, choreography, and spectacular scenic design, this show is the must-see production of 2007. Of special interest are the two St. Ambrose second graders, Madelyn Wansong and Grace Jegle, who recently auditioned and were selected to dance with the Moscow Ballet in their St. Louis performances. Madelyn will be dancing in the French variation and Grace will be in the dance of the snowflakes. The performances will be at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center on the UMSL campus on December 26, 2007, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information on the Moscow Ballet or for tickets, log onto www.nutcracker.com.

Notes to Parents
In the Office
Please stop by to purchase Entertainment Books for $25 each. Don't forget to pick up some Together We're Better cards while you're there.

Hot Lunch Program and Procedure
Click the Cafeteria Menu link in the right column of the Fast Direct home page to see what's being served.
Parents may purchase a card for 7 lunches. Please put the $23 (checks payable to Chris’ Pancake and Dining) in an envelope clearly marked with the following information: Please keep track of the days your child chooses lunch. Some parents post a “lunch calendar” and mark the days 1-7 as purchases are made. The teachers and Chris’ Pancake will take the process from there. If your child forgets to bring lunch, the alternative this year is a cheese sandwich. The price for a single day's lunch is $3.50. All questions, suggestions, and concerns are to be addressed to Chris’ Pancake and Dining via Fast Direct.

Link to Lunches
The PTO has made it easier for you to track the Taste of the Hill lunches you've purchased. Check the link on the main Fast Direct page to view a spreadsheet of payments through December.

Recycle Your Ink Jet Cartridges, Paper, and Aluminum Cans
This free program generates money for St. Ambrose and helps protect the environment. Simply drop the cartridges off in the cafeteria and the paper and cans in the bins on Hereford.

New Instructions Regarding Campbell's Labels
Please send in the entire label, as the instructions for submitting labels have changed. We will have homeroom parents help with the cutting that is required.
Pass the word to grandparents and neighbors who may save them too. And, don't forget to keep clipping boxtops and labels and saving them for upcoming contests!

Save More Labels
Please save labels from Nestle Pure Life Purified Water. The school gains points for every label saved and we can earn equipment at the end of the year. Please turn these labels in separately from the Campbell labels.
