The First Semester in Review
We
do have 300 students who attend St. Ambrose.
This is a time to review some of the many things that our

2009. We have accomplished a lot and are looking forward to the future.

thing that they were thankful for on the leaf. The STUCO students
created a turkey using these leaves and displayed it at the
Thanksgiving Mass.

Thank You from St.. Louis Veterans’ Home Committee
Dear Members: “Peace and Goodwill”
will be the experience this holiday season for our Veterans thanks to
your kindness and generosity. They will open their gifts and know that
they were not forgotten for the time spent in service to their country.
Because of your thoughtfulness we will be able to purchase a twenty
dollar item for each resident and ten dollars will be credited to each
Veteran's account to be used in any way they choose. On behalf of the
Veterans, the Assistance League, and the Administration we thank your
organization for opening their hearts to our Veterans during this
special time of year. We hope your holidays will be filled with the
spirit and joy that you have provided for our residents at the Missouri
Veterans Home-St. Louis. May “Peace and Goodwill”
be your ongoing guide throughout the new year. Thank you for your
ongoing hard work and commitments to our cause.
Toy Drive Successful
Thank
you to everyone that gave to Our Little Haven Toy Drive. We collected
over 150 toys for the center. They were very greatly appreciated. The
toys were used for Christmas, for birthdays, and they even give the
children toys when they return home. The girls that organized it really
enjoyed doing this and thank everyone who contributed!!

January Faculty Meeting
The January Faculty Meeting will take place on Thursday,
January 14. The students will be dismissed at noon.
Re-registration/Registration
Although it is only January, it is time to consider
re-registration for St. Ambrose for the 2010-2011 school year. We are
asking all current families to be prepared for re-registration
packets to be coming home within the next week. We are asking that
these packets be returned by January 25, 2010. This
will assist us in preparing for registration of incoming students in
February. We need to know the number of children returning
to school before we can accept new students who wish to attend St.
Ambrose. Your prompt attention to this matter
will be greatly appreciated.
Open House
St. Ambrose, along with all city catholic elementary
school, will be hosting an Open House on January 31, 2010, from 12:00
noon-2:00 pm. We are encouraging all current families to
bring in at least one new family to see our school and offerings. For
every 20 current families
who bring someone new to St. Ambrose by February 16, we will have a
drawing for a $50 TWB card (not to exceed $200). Be sure to have
the family you send to Open House fill out a card listing your name.
Extended Care Session II
The program for the second semester will begin the week of February 8.
Currently, classes in cooking, karate, and photography are confirmed
with the possibility for a fine arts and soccer class as well.
Convent to Classrooms
Auction 2010
The St. Ambrose Auction for 2010 will be held on November
13, 2010. The theme of the 2010 auction is “Convent to Classrooms.” The proceeds will be used to offset the costs
of converting the convent space to classrooms. Since the date is 11/13, the school office will be encouraging donations on the
11th and 13th of each month. We are accepting items now. Donation forms are in the office. Thank you in advance for
your generosity.

Simple
Solutions Quotes
"It's really good for third graders because it's teaching
about adding, multiplying, subtraction, fractions and a lot of good
stuff to learn."
David W.
"Simple Solutions is really great to learn new math because I like
math."
Brendan S.
"I like Simple Solutions. Some problems are easy and some are hard. It
only takes about three minutes."
Joey S.
"I think it's fun, it's easy and it doesn't take much time."
Savanna C.
Middle School
Language Arts
The sixth grade is exploring objective and subjective forms of journalism
through relevant news articles. This will then lend itself to students being
able to examine their first exposures to liturature of Nursery Rhymes, which not
only trained their little ears to rhyming schemes, but were initially used as
parodies of historical events.
They will begin web-based research on the Nursery Rhyme histories this week, and
it will culminate in two separate writing assignments.
History:
7th grade are doing mock Lewis and Clark journals and the 6th grade are making
castles and catapults
Religion:
6th Grade Religion have begun the Family Life Book. We will be working with that
until we finish and then pick back up with the Old Testament after that.
Science:
7th grade is learning about genetics where they will be making foam ball
organisms after coding for the traits passed on from the parent genes. They will
also be learning how to construct and analyze Punnett Squares.
Here are some pictures
to enjoy from the Christmas Mass on December 18th and the Middle School
