Convent to Classrooms Auction 2010
The St. Ambrose Auction will take place on November 13, 2010, and Mr. Kim Tucci has once again agreed to be the auctioneer for the evening. The cost for the event is $75.00 per person. Contracts for gift donations are available in the school office and we are looking for underwriters for various expenses for the evening. More information will be forthcoming in the bulletin and school papers. If you have any questions or would like to be on a committee, please contact the school office at (314) 772-1437.

Box Tops Contest #2
The Second Box Tops Contest takes place from February 8 through February 26. Send in those box tops to help us. If any parishioners have box tops that they would like to give to the school, please send them with a student or feel free to drop them by the office. We have been able to update the drinking fountains, update the shades in the classrooms that had them, and many other minor capital improvements with the money we raise through this program. Please collect them and turn them in when you can! We’d like to thank Angie Kaestner for her assistance in chairing this program.

Looking Ahead
To honor St. Joseph on his feast day, March 18, St. Ambrose students will once again have an opportunity to participate in the custom of the St. Joseph's Altar.  Watch for additional information as the date approaches.
 

The St. Ambrose Students enjoy a visit from the CBC Band

• The middle school students who raised money for the Haitians by selling scarves, friendship bracletts, and lanyards made $40 for the cause!
• 8th grade is about to start researching the music, sports, and entertainment of the roaring 20s. The students  will compile top ten lists.
• 8th Accelerated Math—introducing the multiplication of polynomials this week
• 7th Grade Religion—Mrs. Kar’s 7th grade religion classes are exploring elements of peace from the works of St. Francis of Assisi, the Sign of Peace and the history behind the handshake, and the Peace Builders' Initiative. This study will conclude with the students examining the world around them and making collages of objects and persons that promote peace in songs, world leaders, and society.
• 6th Grade Grammar—Mrs. Kar’s 6th grade grammar will be working on the final submittals of their persuasive essays.
• 7th Science—Mrs. Ronzio’s 7th grade science classes are conducting a DNA Fingerprinting Lab through the process of color separation.
• 6th Science—Mrs. Ronzio’s 6th grade science classes are exploring the Periodic Table.
• 8th Lit—Mrs. Schaeffer’s 8th grade language arts class welcomed the docent from the Repertory Theatre last week who instructed on the expectations of a good audience and what the students  will encounter on their visit this Thursday, 18 February, for the showing of the play The Diary of Anne Frank. A scale model of the set was on exhibit for the students’ viewing, and as Julia S. said, “It was tight!”
  To further authenticate the connection between the piece of literature and real life, Ms. Brickey brought in her photographs from her summer travels which included a visit to the Amsterdam house where Anne Frank and her family found refuge from the Nazi controlled Netherlands. The students were thoroughly engaged and Addyson M. noted that “It was amazing.”
