From the Faith and Sacraments Committee
The Casual Day money from this Thursday will be donated to the Pro Papa Missions-America. The Parish Nurse, Rita, will use the money to buy medicine and medical supplies for the people in Honduras. Thanks to your generosity, so many people's lives can be saved!

Box Tops for Education
The counts are in and three homerooms brought in over 1000 boxtops! Incredible! David House had the most Box Tops of any of the homerooms in school. They will receive a pizza lunch for the whole homeroom. The money gained from turning in the box tops has enabled the school to purchase new shades for the windows in the classrooms. They are heavier than the old ones and more sturdy for classroom use. Please continue to collect the Box Tops and Campbell’s labels. We certainly use the money to make improvements around the school.

Professional Development for our Teachers
Student St. Joseph Altar
The Students of St. Ambrose will have a St. Joseph altar on Thursday, March 18. That morning, Msgr. The items can be home-made or store-bought.

Book Fair Diner Dinner Survey
In keeping with this year's Scholastic Book Fair theme "Book Fair Diner," a family dinner is under consideration for Thursday, March 25. If enough families are interested, a chicken dinner will be sold from 5-7 pm. The cost will be $4 for students and $5 for adults. Please respond to Linda via Fast Direct if you are interested in purchasing dinner.

Thank You
The students in grades 3-6 wish to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Hardee’s and the St. Louis Bandits (NAHL hockey team) for their recent field trip to see the Bandits play the Springfield Jr. Blues. The students and chaperones enjoyed a free bus trip, free lunch (hot dog, chips, and soda), and free entrance to the game. They were able to purchase pucks for a Chuck-A-Puck contest and earn the right to go on ice to shoot at Bandit the mascot. Everyone had a great time!

Convent to Classrooms Auction Updates
The auction committee continues to meet. We have a strong foundation in place with all committees except Acquisitions. While everyone is a gift getter, we need leadership in this area. If you can lead and get gifts and motivate others to get gifts for our school, we need you! Please reply via Fast Direct or call Sr. Carol by Friday, March 12, and tell us you are able and willing to help.
Auction gifts are currently being accepted in the school office. Be sure to complete up a three-part form when submitting your gift and watch Fast Direct for suggestions and incentives.

We are having a Pre-Auction Raffle and info and tickets will be coming home soon. God bless you and all you do for your children and all of us in the St. Ambrose School Community.

The St. Ambrose Auction will take place on November 13, 2010, and Mr. Kim Tucci has once again agreed to be the auctioneer for the evening. The cost for the event is $75.00 per person. Contracts for gift donations are available in the school office and we are looking for underwriters for various expenses for the evening. More information will be forthcoming in the bulletin and school papers. If you have any questions or would like to be on a committee, please contact the school office at (314) 772-1437.

Clean Up Your Language
March is National Developmental Disability Awareness Month. The Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities and People First have produced a postcard which can serve to remind us that the words we choose can either be helpful or hurtful. During this season of Lent, as we strive to remove those things that separate us from God, we have the opportunity to reflect on our own use of language. We are distributing these cards in the hope that you will use them to have a conversation with your child(ren) about treating one another with respect and dignity. Sometimes we aren't even aware of when we are being hurtful. Maybe this will help prevent some unintended pain.

Stations of the Cross
Please note the following schedule for Stations of the Cross and join us in Church at 2:00 pm.
March 12 - Grades K-4
March 26 - Grades 5-8

St. Joseph's Student Altar
To honor St. Joseph on his feast day, March 18, St. Ambrose students will once again have an opportunity to participate in the custom of the St. Joesph's Altar.  Parents are welcome to attend the 8:00 am blessing of the altar bread. Additionally, families are invited to contribute baked goods, in individually wrapped child-sized portions, to sell during lunch for prices between .25 and .50. Any items remaining will be sold by 3:05 that afternoon, as the cafeteria needs to be vacated for the parish St. Joseph's Altar preparations. All proceeds, including those of the March 11 dress-down day, will be contributed to one of the following areas: a medical mission trip to Honduras, St. Vincent de Paul, and earthquake relief.

St. Ambrose Teachers Honored at the St. Joseph Altar
The following randomly selected teachers will sit with Archbishop Carlson at the head table on Sunday, March 21: Michelle Grellner, Ann Grandstaff, Annunciata Buzzai, Sr. Carol Sansone, Kathy McIver, Sr. Margaret Stoverink, Debbie Hilderbrand, Mary Lynne Harris, Maria Foster, Kate Black, JoAnn Dreas, Lisa Horner.

Primary and Intermediate Drop-In Days
Parents of students in grades K through 5 are invited to drop-in on classes during the afternoon of Tuesday, March 30, and the morning of Wednesday, March 31, which provides an additional opportunity to attend 8:00 am Mass with your child(ren).

Safe Touch Program
Once again this spring, we are ready to begin the Safe Touch Program for our students. The Archdiocesan Child Safety Committee has developed a school-based curriculum for grades K-8 that contains practical, helpful information to help children protect themselves from dangers that exist today. The curriculum has not changed from previous years. The goal is to equip our students with the skills necessary for them to participate in their own personal physical safety.

The objective of this curriculum, entitled "Safe Touch," is to teach our children self-protection skills. Children will learn body safety rules in an age-appropriate and non-threatening manner. This curriculum will be taught by Lisa Horner, our learning consultant, who is a trained lead teacher for "Safe Touch." It will consist of one class period.

The "Safe Touch" curriculum approaches safety issues in a respectful manner, connecting our Catholic values with information to keep our children safe. Please do not hesitate to contact Sister Carol or Mrs. Horner if you have any questions or concerns regarding this important piece of your child's education.

The curriculum and lesson plan is available for you to look over, should you wish to do so. Just contact Mrs. Horner. If for whatever reason you would prefer your child not to hear this presentation at school, you have the option of opting him or her from the program. Simply contact Sister Carol or Mrs. Horner.
