May Casual Day Mission Intention
A group of eight Physical Therapy graduates from Mizzou and some of their professors are leaving the day after graduation for Haiti to offer services to the earthquake victims. The major surgeries are over now, but people with amputations, spinal cord injuries, head traumas, and multiple fractures are in desperate need of physical therapy to help restore their mobility, so they can begin rebuilding their lives. These students need our help. Any monetary help we can give will be greatly appreciated and they also request prayers for their safety and the health of the victims they will serve. I have requested that this be our May Dress Down Day Mission intention because my niece, Ann Marie, is one of the students. I am so proud of her eagerness to serve. Thank you for any donation you can provide that will help them make this happen.

Together We're Better Order Forms Due

Just a reminder that the special TWB order form is due by Friday, May 14. Orders received by 9:00 am will be submitted for delivery early next week. Every family that participates will be entered into a drawing for the choice of either a free yearbook or a $25 TWB gift card. Families that order $50 or more will be entered into the drawing a second time. If you have misplaced your order form, you can find the whole list of retailers at glscrip.com or by clicking the link on the Fast Direct home page. Stock up now for all your summer needs such as graduations, birthdays, weddings, and even travel and home repair. Every purchase helps our school earn money for special activities and projects. Thank you!

Scholarships
The St. Ambrose Alumni Association will present $5000 in scholarships at the Alumni Breakfast on Sunday, May 16. We are grateful for their support of our alums! Anyone wishing to establish a scholarship for K-7 St. Ambrose students is invited to contact the school or rectory offices. We also welcome any contributions toward tuition assistance during these difficult financial times.

Enrichment Program
The final enrichment session ended yesterday with a performance by students enrolled in the Circus program. We hope everyone enjoyed this year's offerings and hope to receive the grant money to offer additional opportunities for the 2010-2011 school year. Parents are welcome to submit program proposals to the school office for consideration.

Language Arts Materials Available
Textbooks and workbooks from the current Language Arts curriculum will be available between May 21 and 27 in the following locations: Grades K-2, second floor; grades 3-4, first floor; grades 5-8, third floor. These books are being replaced by a new series next year and are being offered to St. Ambrose families on a first-come, first-served basis for a free-will offering.

Soccer and Volleyball Registration
Please turn in your forms to the school office no later than Friday, May 21, 2010. The fee remains $15.00 per player. Late fee for any form is an additional $15.00. Please make checks payable to St. Ambrose Athletic Association. Seperate checks for each sport, please. You can have multiple children on one check, however, only one check for each sport.

Soccer Registrations should be made to the attention of Steve Feltz; Volleyball Registrations to Amy Cassani. These forms can be printed off the St. Ambrose Athletic Association web site, www.stambrosesports.com. We will both be available at the school picnic on May 18 as well.

We had a few opportunities last week to honor Mary as our queen and mother. We prayed the rosary on Thursday and had the May Crowning on Friday. The children did a wonderful job with both prayer services. Thank you to the teachers who prepared the children for these days.

Catholic Secondary and Elementary Schools in Partnership
The South City Collaborative is creating avenues through which the Catholic secondary and elementary schools can work together in some curriculum areas. The first project is the High School Algebra I Honors Program. The curriculum for this course was developed and accepted by the partner high schools in St. Louis city and county.
The goal is for each student to successfully complete a full credit of high school Algebra I and to advance to the next level of math as a high school freshman.

This class is being offered to Catholic elementary school students in the city of St. Louis and will be taught at Bishop DuBourg High School from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm each day in the Fall. This is a high school level course and will be taught by a high school teacher. This and other upcoming courses will enable the elementary students taking the courses to obtain high school credits and to get a feel for high school level work.

Students in grade 7 will take a test on May 20 or 24 for acceptance into the course.
There is no limit to how many students from any school take the entrance test if they meet the qualifications. Seventh grade parents have received a letter with additional information. For questions, please contact Sr. Kathleen Koenen at (314) 341-0177. The cost of the course for elementary students is $50 and will include books. Parents will have to provide transportation.

Convent to Classrooms Auction
Have you attended any great auctions lately? The auction committee welcomes any ideas or suggestions. The next meeting is being rescheduled for after Easter break. Watch Fast Direct for the date.

The auction will take place on November 13, 2010, and Mr. Kim Tucci has once again agreed to be the auctioneer for the evening. The cost for the event is $75.00 per person. Contracts for gift donations are available in the school office and we are looking for underwriters for various expenses for the evening. More information will be forthcoming in the bulletin and school papers. If you have any questions or would like to be on a committee, please contact the school office at (314) 772-1437.
