Mandatory Parent Confirmation Meeting/8th Grade High School Meeting
Wednesday,
October 14, at 6:30 pm in the Church, all 7th and 8th grades parents
are required to attend the Confirmation Meeting. Msgr. Bommarito, Mrs.
Kar, and Mrs. Hilderbrand will discuss the requirements to be
confirmed, service hours, and sponsors. If time allows, a 30 minute
“High School Expectations” meeting will follow for 8th
grade parents.
Box Tops Contest
This
first Box Tops Contest of the year will be extended to Wednesday
October 21. If you have any box tops for education, please send them to
school. We are collecting as many as we can to assist with the purchase
of additional white boards for our grades 1-5 classrooms. The Middle
School classrooms, Kindergarten classrooms, and Art Room boards were
replaced with new whiteboards over the Summer.
Special
Intentions
Contact Debbie Hilderbrand if you wish to include any prayer intention
in the newsletter.

Magic House Field Trip
Our
third graders are looking forward to their field trip to the Magic
House on Thursday, October 15. They will be touring the facility and
receiving a class on personal banking. This is an annual field trip for
our third graders. Mrs. Elmore and Mrs. Grandstaff have been impressed
with how well the children learn the concepts of money with the
assistance of the Magic House Staff.
PTO Special Lunch for October 19
The
PTO Special Lunch for October will be hosted by Lorenzo’s. They will be
serving lasagna, salad, and ice cream to the school children who wish
to purchase this lunch. Maureen and Larry Fuse will be present to serve
the food.
TWB gift cards are available for purchase each day in
the office, after Masses on weekends, and on each Friday in the lot
after school beginning at 2:45 pm.
Special Plans for October 20
- October
20 will be a busy day for our Middle School students and faculty. The
7th and 8th grade students, along with Mrs. Kar, Mrs. Schaeffer, and
Mrs. Scherer, will be attending the region-wide Confirmation Retreat at
St. John the Baptist.
- The
6th grades students will have a day of learning about each other,
coping with difficult people/situations, and organizing to help them be
successful in Middle School and beyond. They will spend the day at St.
Ambrose with Mrs. Black, Mrs. Ronzio, and Mrs. Hilderbrand, and enjoy
lunch at Favazza’s. This will be a great day for the class to learn
about each other and work with each other.
- The students in grades K-5 will enjoy a “Bring a Guest to Lunch Day.” More information will follow.
Save the Date
The second quarter PTO Family Dinner at Kemoll's is scheduled for November 30. Watch for a flyer with more information and be aware that on this night, and for any other PTO Family Dinners, Extended Care will close at 4:45, one hour early. Thanks!

Rescheduled Health Screenings
Originally we scheduled the Health Screenings in early September. There
were some conflicts with personal schedules and the 6 - 8 grade YMCA
Day took parents away. SO . . . let's start over and may we have
your help on Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23?
You may Fast Direct Linda or Hilma, who will compile a list of
volunteers for Ms. Masella. She will be the contact person for the
scheduling. If you are in the medical field and can volunteer,
terrific; if you are not, we can still use all the volunteers
available. Thank you for all you do to make St. Ambrose a nice place to
be.
Can You Spare Some Time Over
Lunch?
We
are in need of parent volunteers for lunch/recess, hours are 10:50 -
12:40. Please remember that you must have completed Protecting God's
Children and the associated paperwork. Please contact Bernadette Mense
via Fast Direct if you can help.

Middle School Update
In grammar, the 6th graders are diagraming sentences with the easyteach
software. In social studies, the 6th grade is excited about studying

video on the Boston Massacre, and the 8th grade used an interactive web
site to study the Battle of Gettysburg.
In Language Arts, 7th graders are beginning a personal essay and 8th grade will be starting Tom Sawyer soon. In the 6th grade, students will be reading Holes.

Help with Homework
The
"Study Guide" for the First Quarter Art Test is now posted on Mrs.
Dreas' Bulletin Board. The test will be given the week of October 12,
2009--so there is ample time to prepare. (Parents, if you would like to
help your children study for the test, try "quizzing" them at home--it
could be fun!)
Water
Bottle Recommendations
To encourage hygiene in the face of an aggressive flu season, we
are strongly encouraging the use of water bottles clearly labeled with
the student's name. This not
only prevents the spread of illness, but it encourages needed hydration
and decreases the class interruptions. If
the student is re-using a disposable bottle, we would like to remind
parents that bacteria grow can become a problem as can the leaching of
chemicals from the plastics if exposed to extreme
temperatures.

PTO
Special Lunch Schedule
To
thank the neighborhood restaurants for their support and to share their
wonderful cuisine with our students, PTO invites them to provide lunch
to our students. Each month features a different restaurant and
selection. The dates for the First Semester lunches are as follows:
October
19 - Lorenzo's (Lasagna, salad, and ice cream)
November
16 - Toscano's (Toasted ravioli and garlic bread)
December
14 - Favazza's (Grilled Italian chicken strips and white pasta)
The
cost is the same as last year, $4 for grades K-4, $5 for grades 5-8 and
teachers/staff. Watch for
the order form for these lunches at home and return to the office with
your payment. Please note
that Chris' will not be served on these days.
Hot
Lunch Program Procedures
- Lunch
cards are $15.00 for 5 lunches.
- Every
child buying lunch must have a lunch card before getting in line. Money
will not be accepted in the lunch line. Please make checks payable to
Chris'.
- Students
who forget their lunch will be given cereal and milk that will cost
1.00. Parents will be notified through Fast Direct.
- Snacks
such as pizza, nachos, cereal will be available to buy for students in
grades 3-8.
- A
lunch count is essential in the morning, so there is no food waste and
the students who come through last have a proper lunch. We will not
prepare for extra lunches this year.
